It's the time of the month here when a big junk van comes around and picks up any old crap you have in your garage.... I seem to remember a day like this in Japan - except in Japan they throw out wide-screen TVs and video players (!?). And, like Japan, this day brings out the scabs and scavengers....
Including myself! I found a bike, chucked it in the car, got home and realised it was a rusty piece of - you guessed it - junk. So, what did I do?
I wheeled the bike out to our pile of junk ready for collection - or until some other scab picks it up....

Went to Ottawa again today - capital of Canada.
Strange to go with a Canadian who had never been - when myself, a Brit, had been twice before! She hadn't even ever had a beaver tail... the yummy cinnamon and sugar covered cake treats that you can buy from street vendors.
Sweet!
Bought loads of Japanese ingredients for tomorrow.... we are going to make tempura, miso soup, rice and drink sake in honour of my trip last year to Nippon.
Can you believe it? Little over a year ago, I was in Japan!! Time flies.... 5:26 PM
Sunday, April 28, 2002 Holy snow! The cold white stuff is back out of the blue - 8 inches!
So what have I been up to this week? Planting seeds and fixing up stuff. Even made a table. From now on you can call me Handyman Daigle. Working on a farm has been a lot more fun than even a cynical city boy like me could have imagined...

Yes, I've been fishing for the first time ever!! Up at 5am and then out on Lake Simcoe from 10am till 5pm! I came home wind burnt, sun burnt and worn out - but had a wicked time...
First fish caught was a huge bass - KICKING BASS! - which was out of season so we lobbed him back. I captured the first Perch fish, a tiger-striped sucker, and then the good times rolled. When the fish are biting there's no time for lunch - it's full steam ahead.
Only thing was it was spawning season - so the male fish were spraying their.... essence all over the fishermen and their boat! I guess the fish were just pleased to see us...
Got home at 9.30pm and the fish still had to be filleted and skinned.... in bed by midnight. It's hard work being a fisherman - and I'm going again in May :)
